Car Problems

Another interesting weekend. Saturday E called me from his car. "Mom, you need to come and get me. There's oil all over." "Were you in an accident?" "No, but I can't move my car." So I'm driving to the east end of town from the west end of town, calling the tow truck as I go. When I get to the gas station he pulled into, there is this huge stain of oil slicking across the driveway. Behind him is the evidence of the stream he made while he was driving. He thinks he bottomed out while driving. A very nice Jamaican sounding man "Oh, mon, don't stahrt your car, no mon!" waved him off the road so he hopefully didn't do any damage to the motor. BUT, on his car you have to remove the transmission to get the oil pan off, so the first estimate is $1300, IF nothing is wrong with the engine. So I called the insurance company and filed a collision claim. That way I only have to pay $500. It stinks.

D was being unreasonable about it all. He said E should get his own credit card and charge it because D's car needed brakes and I had to pay for them first. I told him he had his own credit card (which he made such a big deal out of my not being able to use...) and if he wanted his car fixed, HE should charge it, not our 18 year old! Some days it just doesn't pay. The insurance adjuster was supposed to be at the shop before noon. The hole in the oil pan is so large there is no way to keep enough oil in the car to see if it has engine damage. They are probably going to epoxy hole to try to slow the flow. We'll see what happens. I trust my service place (Don's Auto Center) and the guy who runs it (Mike), so I'll trust that to all happen the way it should
