Peaches to the left of me, peaches to the right

Today D and I worked together to cut up and freeze the many, many, many, many peaches our one little tree produced so far. I had already got 5 quart Ziplocs frozen and today we put up 4 more. There are still enough peaches to get two more done today and then tomorrow we start all over again. We are now picking peaches three times a day. Sometimes the bunnies get them first, We leave some on the ground so the little bunnies will each those and maybe not new ones. Ha. Bunnies are mean like that. We found out that our dog, Tucker, loves peaches, too. Last year when we had so many peas he would beg those off me when I was shelling them. He loves onions and peppers, too. The one raccoon in our neighborhood got D's corn again this year. It makes him very sad. I mentioned to him that BBQ'd raccoon is really good, but he's from the east coast and nearly threw up. That was last year, though, and this is the second time it's gotten the corn, so maybe he'll be more open to it this year. There are also about 20 plums on that tree and we've gotten 6 apples. The cherry and the pear tree are still too little to get fruit. I'm not sure what we're going to do if they all produce like the peach tree. At least we know the plum tree and the peach tree don't ripen at the same time. This year has been horrible for my tomatoes, but good for my peppers.

Wow! So much to talk about

I said I was going to keep this blog going, but I haven't. Since I started this I have finished my Masters of Arts in Education (w00t) and have almost gotten my oldest son married (just 23 days left). I guess, like the song says Life Happens. But I should be beading the cathedral veil, so I won't be on here long.

The wedding is going along swimmingly. There have been some ups and downs. It's so hard for S with her mom in Texas, so I feel rather Arkansas - Mother of the Groom and Mother of the Bride. (No offense to Arkansas. Well, okay, a little.) I think we have everything set up now. And I've solved the whole green paraments thing. (Our new Pastor decided not to have the paraments changed to white for weddings. I'm fine with the choice. Our sanctuary isn't an entertainment venue and like he said "We use white at Easter and Christmas and I don't remember a wedding being a high holy day." Besides, the green matches the blue and yellow of the wedding quite well.) I bought blue and yellow gauzy fabric to match the wedding and we can drape the edges of the green with that. Add some flowers at the corners and we're golden.

Still no dress for the wedding. I have the shoes and I have the purse. I could just wear those and scare the heck out of everyone. Make a short evening of it. So much company coming and so many meals and events to prepare food for. At least I'm not making the reception food. I just want everything to be perfect for them. They are such great kids.

And still no full-time job. Will be subbing for another year. And working temporary part-time jobs in between. At least I love doing it. I would love my own full time 5th - 12th band job even better.

Car Problems

Another interesting weekend. Saturday E called me from his car. "Mom, you need to come and get me. There's oil all over." "Were you in an accident?" "No, but I can't move my car." So I'm driving to the east end of town from the west end of town, calling the tow truck as I go. When I get to the gas station he pulled into, there is this huge stain of oil slicking across the driveway. Behind him is the evidence of the stream he made while he was driving. He thinks he bottomed out while driving. A very nice Jamaican sounding man "Oh, mon, don't stahrt your car, no mon!" waved him off the road so he hopefully didn't do any damage to the motor. BUT, on his car you have to remove the transmission to get the oil pan off, so the first estimate is $1300, IF nothing is wrong with the engine. So I called the insurance company and filed a collision claim. That way I only have to pay $500. It stinks.

D was being unreasonable about it all. He said E should get his own credit card and charge it because D's car needed brakes and I had to pay for them first. I told him he had his own credit card (which he made such a big deal out of my not being able to use...) and if he wanted his car fixed, HE should charge it, not our 18 year old! Some days it just doesn't pay. The insurance adjuster was supposed to be at the shop before noon. The hole in the oil pan is so large there is no way to keep enough oil in the car to see if it has engine damage. They are probably going to epoxy hole to try to slow the flow. We'll see what happens. I trust my service place (Don's Auto Center) and the guy who runs it (Mike), so I'll trust that to all happen the way it should

A Long, Hard Day

Why is it the days I get sick never seem to fall out so I can just relax and get better? My throat is so sore and I have sinus congestion to end all sinus congestion. All I wanted to do today is curl up in a little ball and vegetate. BUT...after I took B to school, I had to go with E to get his passport, then weigh in (I gained a pound, bad week...). I was supposed to go to the grocery store, but I came straight home because I forgot. So I came home, I changed clothes, went to the grocery. I came home, figured out I forgot the cheese for the pasta bake tonight and went to Walmart. Then I went to Bed, Bath and Beyond for a small cookie scoop. E called and told me he had stepped in a sink hole at the Duck Race, was soaked up to his knees and could I bring him dry stuff. For having a sick day today, I was gone from home from 7:45 until 1:30 except for about an hour between errands. I still have to cook supper, but after that, it's jammies and hot tea for the rest of the night. Maybe I'll make something for the big birthday bash.

My Own Space, Now

All the class stuff is gone and it's just my blog now. I suppose I'll be talking mostly about the weight loss now, but I'll cover my job search, my kids and probably, occasionally my married life. Oh, and music. What I'm listening to, what albums I got recently. I collect vinyl and I'm working on recording it all digitally so I can put it on a flash drive and have whatever I need when I need it. Oh, I'm a substitute music teacher trying for the last three years to find the perfect job for me. I have to stay in my area because of my husband's job. But I love subbing here. The school system is great, the kids are great!

I told my youngest son, B, I was surprised at how good a mood I've been in for the last week. Every once in awhile everything is right in my world. It usually doesn't last this long.

This last week was the library book sale. We went the first night and bought books we wanted to keep - $85 worth! Then we went to Half Price Night and bought $28+ more. Then we went to $7 a bag night. We came home with $84 that time. But those were all for resale. We sold them for $285+. I love profit.

I work a half day tomorrow, unless this sore throat is worse, in which case, I will be drinking tea all day.
